CWA supports Richard Brodsky for Attorney General
Primary day is this Tuesday and we have a chance to help one of CWA’s greatest legislative champions ever. Assemblyman Richard Brodsky has always been an advocate for CWA members and all working men and women of New York State. As Chairman of the Assembly Committee on Corporations and Authorities, Richard has passed legislation to protect telephone workers and consumers if a telephone company sells its network. And he wasn’t afraid to take on Verizon and Frontier to defend the jobs of our members or service quality for the public. Richard has also taken on powerful corporate interests like Con Edison and the NY Power Authority, and won by forcing Con Ed to rebate $40 million to ratepayers after the 2006 Astoria power outage.
Richard Brodsky has been at our picket lines, at our rallies, and stood up for us when nobody else would. He has proven himself to be a smart, tough, and effective leader who would be a great Attorney General. On Tuesday, please remember to vote and please vote for Richard Brodsky for NYS Attorney General.
- CWA supports Susan Savage for the 44th State Senate District
In the upcoming election for the 44th State Senate District CWA Local 1118 has endorsed Susan Savage over incumbent Hugh Farley. Since becoming the chair of the Schenectady County Legislator Susan has restructured and streamlined county economic development. She helped the working men and women of our community by bringing $400 million and creating 3500 jobs. “We are all frustrated with Albany, and we have a right to be,” said Savage. “But we also have a responsibility to improve it. Just as I helped turn around Schenectady County, I will work every day to turn around Albany and the entire state. We know how we can work together to spur economic recovery, create jobs and get a government we are proud of again. We did it here, we can do it there.”
Unlike her opponent Susan is not out of touch with the needs and concerns of the hard working moms and dads of New York, so on election day this year support a candidate who will support you and vote for Susan Savage.
In Solidarity,
Len Welcome

- Are they all gone?
Where are the contractors? It’s been more than a month and we have received nothing new regarding contractors. Are they all gone? Every work group has been affected whether its call center work, CO work, clerical work or field work, we have examples of Verizon outsourcing our work. This needs to be stopped and we can stop it as long as we work together. I have received a lot of contractor information but we need to keep gathering and recording as much information as we possibly can. When Gil and the other members of the committee meet with the company we need to keep sending them with more examples of contracted jobs to prove that our case does have merit and that the members of CWA will not just stand by and watch their work be sent away. We need to remember that being a member of a union is about more than just paying your dues, its about working together to protect jobs. So everyone needs to stay on top of this issue and report any contracting you see to your steward, chief steward, business agents or the union hall.
In Unity,
Len
- Mott's Workers on Srike
Tell Mott's: get the scabs out of your applesauce!
Even in a depressed economy, Mott's – the huge applesauce and juice company – is thriving. Just last year, its parent company earned $555 million in profits.
But instead of rewarding its workers for that success, Mott’s is keeping all the profits – and then some. At one facility in Williamson, NY, management tried to slash workers’ wages by as much as $1.50 per hour AND take away their pension plan! And when the workers went on strike, Mott’s hired strike breakers – otherwise known as scabs – to cross the picket line.
